Installing CodeMatrix

Installing client software on Windows

Overview

CodeMatrix uses a client server architecture. This means that a single computer (the server) will manage information centrally, and individual users (clients) will connect to that computer. This section describes installing the software a user needs to access an existing server. The installer can be downloaded from our downloads page.

Remember free email support is available whilst evaluating CodeMatrix.

When the downloaded program setup.exe is run a standard wizard style installer will be displayed. It is assumed that the user is familiar with the general operation of such a program. The significant pages in this installer are described in the following sections.

Note that once the software is installed, running the installer again will not allow the software location or component selection to be changed, port settings may be altered and software upgraded only. This is to protect any Active Workspaces on the computer. If you make a mistake and wish to start again you must first uninstall the software by using the Add/Remove programs option in the control panel.

Selecting components

On the select components page the user selects whether client components, server components or both will be installed. In this example accept the default of client components only.

Specifying the communications settings

On this page the user enters the information required to communicate with the server, and for local communication. Three values must be entered.

Server address. This is a name or address which identifies the machine which is executing the CodeMatrix software. This may be a machine name, an IP address or a domain name. If you are unsure what to enter here you should ask the person responsible for the CodeMatrix server, or your network administrator.

Server  port. When the server is installed a TCP port is selected. The same port number must be entered here. To avoid confusion we recommend that the default (3033) is selected for both the client and server. If you are unsure what to enter here you should ask the person responsible for the CodeMatrix server.

Local port. CodeMatrix uses a TCP port on the client machine for internal communication. This can be any number that does not represent a used port. We recommend that the default value (3033) be used.

Specifying a user name

On this page the user enters the user name to be used in the CodeMatrix system. This can be any name not yet used on the CodeMatrix system.
