Installing CodeMatrix

Installing server software on Windows

Overview

CodeMatrix uses a client server architecture. This means that a single computer (the server) will manage information centrally, and individual users (clients) will connect to that computer. This section describes installing the server software. The installer can be downloaded from our downloads page.

Remember free email support is available whilst evaluating CodeMatrix.

When the downloaded program setup.exe is run a standard wizard style installer will be displayed. It is assumed that the user is familiar with the general operation of such a program. The significant pages in this installer are described in the following sections.

Note that once the software is installed, running the installer again will not allow the software location or component selection to be changed, port settings may be altered and software upgraded only. This is to protect any Active Workspaces and repositories on the computer. If you make a mistake and wish to start again you must first uninstall the software by using the Add/Remove programs option in the control panel.

Selecting components

On the select components page the user selects whether client components, server components or both will be installed. In this example select server components only.

Specifying the communications settings

On this page the user specifies the TCP port on which the server will accept client collections. This can be any free port on the server computer, but unless there is an overriding reason to the contrary we recommend that the default value (3033) be used. This value should be recorded as it will be required when installing client software,

The read only server address field shows the computer name for informational purposes only.

Entering a license key

After the required files are installed the license entry page is shown. If you have not already done so you will need to request an evaluation license key or purchase a production license key. Use copy / paste to enter the key into the entry field, ensuring the @begin and @end tags are included, and the data between is not altered.
